How to get to Kigali
Kigali is Rwanda's capital and primary international gateway. Flying into Kigali International Airport (KGL)
Kigali International Airport lies in Kanombe, roughly 10 kilometres east of the central business district — typically a 15–25 minute drive in light traffic. The airport serves Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Dubai, Doha, Brussels, Amsterdam, and regional hubs; RwandaAir connects extensively within Africa.
Immigration, baggage collection, and ground transport can take sixty to ninety minutes during peak arrivals. Most travelers pre-book hotel pickup or safari operator meet-and-greet. From KGL to central Kigali hotels

Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi lies roughly 105–120 kilometres northwest on paved RN4 through Musanze (Ruhengeri). Private safari vehicles typically cover the distance in two to two-and-a-half hours, sometimes stretching to three with traffic or photo stops.
Gorilla trek days require arrival at Kinigi before 7:00 a.m. for briefing. Overland entry from Uganda and Tanzania
Multi-country safaris enter Rwanda by road from Uganda at Gatuna/Katuna (north toward Kigali and Volcanoes) or Cyanika (near Kisoro, toward southwestern Uganda gorilla parks). From Tanzania, Rusumo border connects eastern Rwanda toward Kigali and Akagera. Border hours, e-visas, East Africa Tourist Visa eligibility, and yellow-fever certificate rules must be confirmed before travel — operators normally handle sequencing on packaged routes.

Walking is feasible in daylight in central neighbourhoods; use hotel transfers after dark in unfamiliar areas.

Independent travelers with rental cars can navigate Kigali and major highways; Volcanoes trek days still require RDB permits and guide assignment at Kinigi.
