Day-by-day itinerary
Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park
Drive west via Mubende to Fort Portal (approx. 5–6 hours). Arrive at your lodge near Kibale National Park by afternoon.
Optional Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk — red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey and great blue turaco. Evening briefing on tomorrow's chimp trek.
Kibale Forest Camp and Primate Lodge are the closest properties to Kanyanchu — 10-minute drive to the briefing point. Chimp permits are date-specific and non-transferable.

Chimpanzee trekking — Queen Elizabeth transfer
Morning chimpanzee trekking at Kanyanchu — 2–4 hours typical with one hour on contact. Kibale's habituated communities are among Africa's most reliable chimp encounters.
Transfer south to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approx. 2–3 hours). Check in near Mweya or Katwe.
Kibale to Queen Elizabeth via Fort Portal takes 2–3 hours. Afternoon at leisure or optional crater-lake drive before tomorrow's Kazinga cruise and Kasenyi game drive.

Safari activity | Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale
Track a habituated chimp community through mature rainforest with UWA rangers — one hour with the group once located.Queen Elizabeth — Kazinga & Kasenyi
Dawn game drive on the Kasenyi Plains — lion, leopard, elephant and Uganda kob. Return for breakfast.
Afternoon Kazinga Channel boat safari — hippo pods, buffalo and elephant at the banks. African skimmer and malachite kingfisher are regular.
Queen Elizabeth spans two rift valley lakes — George and Edward. The park's elephant population migrates between sectors seasonally; Kasenyi and Mweya are reliable year-round.

Safari activity | Kazinga Channel boat safari
Afternoon two-hour cruise on the channel — dense hippo pods, elephant and buffalo on the banks, outstanding birding.Queen Elizabeth — Ishasha optional — Bwindi approach
Drive south through the Ishasha sector (optional tree-climbing lion stop, approx. 2 hours from Mweya) toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (approx. 5–6 hours total).
Arrive at your Bwindi sector lodge by evening. Tomorrow is gorilla day — porters can be arranged tonight.
The Kigezi highlands rise above 2,000 m before dropping into Bwindi — temperatures cool noticeably at gorilla lodge elevation. Black-fronted duiker and giant forest hog sign appear on forest trails near the park boundary.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (331 km²) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site protecting Afromontane forest above 1,160 m. Four sectors each have separate habituated gorilla families.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Full mountain gorilla trek day — 2–8 hours round trip with one hour on contact. UWA rangers lead you through montane forest to your assigned habituated family.
Afternoon rest at the lodge. Porters recommended on steep, muddy trails.
Gorilla trekking certificate is issued at park headquarters on return. Afternoon rest is standard — the Day 6 Mburo stop is a short savannah finale before the long drive to Kampala.

Safari activity | Mountain gorilla trekking
Track a habituated gorilla family through Bwindi's montane forest — one hour with the group on contact, then your gorilla trekking certificate on return.Lake Mburo — return to Kampala
Morning drive north to Lake Mburo National Park (approx. 4–5 hours) for a short game drive or boat cruise — Burchell's zebra, impala and eland on the compact savannah.
Continue to Kampala/Entebbe (approx. 4–5 hours from Mburo). Lunch en route; airport drop-off.
Lake Mburo boat cruise (1.5 hours) runs morning departures at 09:00 and 11:00. The park is 240 km from Kampala — final transfer takes 4–5 hours on tarmac via Masaka.
Mburo is 240 km from Kampala — the final leg completes Uganda's most popular primate-and-plains combination in six days without Kidepo or Murchison.
Mburo's acacia woodland holds the highest leopard sighting rate per km² in Uganda — dawn drives (06:30) maximise cat activity before the Kampala transfer.
