8 Days Best of Botswana Wilderness Safari
Botswana · Delta & savannah mix
Tour overview
The 8-day Best of Botswana Wilderness Safari samples the country's three defining landscapes — the water world of the Okavango Delta, the elephant highways of Chobe and the predator drama of Moremi Game Reserve — without rushing. You get two full camps in the delta (water and land), three nights on the Chobe riverfront and time for mokoro, walking and night drives on private concessions.
Botswana's low-density tourism model means you rarely queue at sightings. Peak season (July–October) concentrates game at remaining water; green season (November–March) brings calving, migrant birds and dramatic skies at lower rates.

Day-by-day itinerary
Maun — fly to Okavango water camp

Safari activity | Okavango mokoro safari
Afternoon mokoro through papyrus channels — red lechwe, hippos and malachite kingfishers in the delta's quiet backwaters.

Okavango water activities
Full day mokoro and motorboat: heronries, hippo pools, island bush brunch. Wattled cranes, African jacana and pygmy geese work the lily pads; hippos grunt from deeper pools. The silence of mokoro travel — no engine, only the dip of the pole — defines the Okavango experience.
Afternoon walking safari with armed ranger — buffalo, giraffe and zebra at eye level on a delta island. Your ranger explains how lechwe hooves are adapted for soft floodplain mud. Evening fireside briefing on tomorrow's inter-camp flight. Optional night drive for genet, civet and leopard at camps like Wilderness Jao or Sanctuary Vumbura Plains.
Water camp
Fly to Okavango / Moremi land camp
Morning mokoro or short game drive, then inter-camp flight to a land concession. The landscape shifts from open water channels to mopane woodland and floodplain — a different habitat palette with different species priorities.
Afternoon 4×4 drive — lion, leopard, wild dog and elephant on floodplain edges. Wilderness Mombo, Sanctuary Chief's Camp and Great Plains Duba Explorers define the luxury land-camp experience. Off-road driving is permitted on private concessions for quality predator sightings.
Safari activity | Moremi land camp game drive
Afternoon 4×4 on private concession — off-road permitted for lion, leopard and wild dog on the floodplain edges of Moremi.
Flight: Inter-camp approx. 15–30 min
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Accommodation: Land camp
Moremi / Okavango game drives
Dawn drive on private concession — off-road permitted for quality sightings. Lion prides follow buffalo herds through mopane woodland; leopard hunt in riverine forest along the channel. Midday rest at camp during heat.
Afternoon drive to lagoon edges for elephant bathing and saddle-billed storks. Night drive for nocturnal predators and civets. Your guide tailors routes to overnight reports — perhaps Chief's Island grasslands for cheetah or Third Bridge for wild dog.
Land camp
Fly or drive to Kasane — Chobe River
Transfer to Kasane (charter 1 hr or road 5–6 hrs). Check in at your riverfront lodge overlooking the Zambezi floodplain.

Chobe National Park full day
Pre-dawn tea and game drives along the Chobe riverfront and Serondela — Africa's greatest elephant densities, often herds of hundreds along the river terrace. Lion, leopard, puku and sable are targets alongside the ever-present elephant. Carmine bee-eaters nest in sandbanks in September.
Midday picnic in the park or return to Chobe Safari Lodge, Chobe Game Lodge or Muchenje Safari Lodge. Afternoon drive along Sedudu Valley where elephant cross between Namibia's Impalila Island and Botswana — swimming trunk-to-trunk in the golden hour.
Chobe lodge
Chobe to Moremi (Khwai) — afternoon drive
Morning game drive or boat cruise on the Chobe riverfront, then transfer south to Moremi Khwai area (road approx. 3–4 hours). The landscape shifts from river terrace to floodplain and mopane woodland — a different habitat palette with different predator priorities.
Afternoon drive along the Khwai channel — leopard in ebony groves, elephant bathing, African fish eagles everywhere. Khwai Lediba, Camp Moremi and African Bush Camps Khwai offer en-suite tented accommodation on the floodplain edge.
Khwai / Xakanaxa camp
Moremi morning — transfer to Maun
Final sunrise game drive on the Khwai floodplain — last chance for wild dog, leopard or lion in the golden dawn light. Return to camp for breakfast, then road or charter return to Maun for departures.
