18 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari

Uganda · Extended wildlife circuit

Tour overview

The ultimate 18 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari — every savannah park, both chimp forests, gorillas, and the remote northeast. Nothing is tick-box; this is slow safari at its best. Includes two chimp experiences (Kibale + Budongo) and optional golden-monkey trek in Mgahinga. Picnic lunches en route; landscape shifts from Budongo’s mahogany forest edge through Acholi farmland to semi-arid Karamoja plains with distinctive manyattas and cattle culture. Kidepo Narus Valley — full-day game drives

Full day in the Narus Valley — lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, ostrich and greater kudu. Dawn and afternoon drives maximise sightings on the permanent water corridor.

Safari activity | Kidepo Narus Valley game drive

Remote savannah at its best — cheetah and ostrich on golden plains backed by the Morungole Mountains.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Kidepo — second wildlife day & Kanangorok springs

Explore the northern Kidepo Valley and Kanangorok hot springs near the South Sudan border — a stark semi-desert landscape where ostrich and secretary birds are more common than in the Narus Valley. The springs bubble at the surface in a remote corner of the park few visitors reach. Afternoon return to Narus for a second predator-focused drive targeting lion on the plains or optional Karamojong manyatta visit with a community guide. Double Kidepo days distinguish this 18-day route from compressed itineraries — time to absorb the park’s scale, solitude and Morungole mountain backdrop. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner Accommodation: Kidepo lodge

Kidepo to Kibale Forest — epic western transfer

Very long drive west via Kitgum, Gulu and Fort Portal (approx. 9–10 hours) — one of the defining transfer days on this slow safari. Picnic lunches at roadside stops; the landscape transforms from Karamoja semi-desert through Acholi farmland to tea plantations and volcanic crater lakes as you approach the Albertine Rift. Arrive at Kibale lodge by evening — rest before tomorrow’s second chimp trek. Your guide previews the contrast with Budongo: Kibale’s denser understorey and higher primate diversity make for a different trekking experience on the same species. Drive time: 9–10 hours Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

  • Luxury: Kyaninga Lodge, Ndali Lodge
  • Mid-range: Primate Lodge Kibale, Turaco Treetops

Semuliki forest birding — transfer to Bwindi

Morning forest birding for Congo Basin specials at Semuliki’s eastern fringe — hornbills, lyre-tailed honeyguide and other Ituri ecosystem species at the edge of the Albertine Rift. The lowland rainforest here feels closer to Central Africa than typical Ugandan highland forest. Afternoon transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (5–6 hours) through the Kigezi highlands. Check in at sector-matched lodge with evening gorilla briefing — pack waterproof boots, gloves and gaiters for tomorrow’s trek. Drive time: 5–6 hours to Bwindi Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner Accommodation: Bwindi sector lodge (Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija or Nkuringo)

Safari activity | Lake Mburo afternoon game drive

Open savannah drive for zebra, impala, eland and Rothschild’s giraffe — compact terrain ideal for photography on the penultimate wildlife day.
Zebra, impala, eland and Rothschild’s giraffe are reliable on the open plains; leopards are shy but present. The park’s lakes and acacia woodland make a gentle reintroduction to savannah after Bunyonyi’s highland scenery. Check in at Mihingo Lodge, Rwakobo Rock or equivalent. Drive time: 4–5 hours Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 16 | Accommodation

Options based on your package

  • Luxury: Mihingo Lodge
  • Mid-range: Rwakobo Rock, Eagle's Nest

Lake Mburo — full wildlife day

Lake Mburo to Entebbe — departure

Return to Entebbe (3–4 hours) via Mbarara and Equator stop at Kayabwe for photos and lunch. Watch the classic water-drain demonstration straddling the line and browse craft stalls before the final run to the airport. Your guide debriefs the complete 18-day circuit — two chimps, gorillas, Kidepo, Semuliki, Queen Elizabeth and Mburo — and can recommend golden-monkey or repeat gorilla extensions if dates allow.
