10 Days Okavango Delta Safari (Botswana)

Botswana · Waterways & big game

Tour overview

Ten days immersed in the Okavango Delta — Botswana's crown jewel and one of the planet's most extraordinary ecosystems. This extended itinerary visits three distinct delta zones: a deep-water mokoro concession, a mixed woodland–floodplain camp near Moremi and a private reserve on the delta's northern or western edge for maximum habitat diversity.

You experience the full activity palette: mokoro, motorboat, 4×4, walking safaris, night drives and seasonal helicopter flights. Flood levels peak June–August; birding peaks November–March with migrants and breeding colonies.

Day 1 | Accommodation

Options based on your package

  • Luxury: Wilderness Jao, Sanctuary Vumbura Plains, Belmond Eagle Island
  • Mid-range: Oddballs Enclave, Delta Camp

Okavango Camp 1 — water day

Full mokoro and boat programme. Walking island safari with armed ranger. Sundowners on floodplain — fish eagles, malachite kingfishers and red lechwe in the golden hour.

Red lechwe splash through the shallows while African fish eagles call from dead trees along the channel. Camp guides coordinate mokoro, boat and drive times around the Okavango flood pulse and overnight predator reports from neighbouring concessions.

Elephant herds move to the water each afternoon along the Chobe riverfront — your guide positions the vehicle or boat for the best sight lines across the Sedudu Valley and Serondela terrace.

Moremi's mopane woodland and floodplain edges hold lion, leopard and wild dog; off-road driving on private concessions allows close predator sightings that public parks cannot offer.

Savuti's lion prides and hyena clans gather at the marsh waterhole at dusk — one of Botswana's most reliable predator concentrations when the channel flows.

Khwai community polers navigate the channel quietly, passing hippos and pied kingfishers while buffalo and giraffe graze the floodplain fringe.
