Tour overview
The classic 6-day Tanzania wildlife safari — all four Northern Circuit pillars: Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti. Better paced than the 4-day version, with two Serengeti nights for proper plains immersion.
Covers roughly 1,000 km of game-driving across ecosystems from baobab savannah to crater floor grassland to endless Serengeti horizons. The standard benchmark itinerary for first-time Tanzania visitors.

Day-by-day itinerary
Arusha to Tarangire — elephant country
Pick-up from Arusha or JRO and drive to Tarangire National Park (approx. 2–2.5 hours). Afternoon game drive among elephant herds, baobab savannah, and the permanent Tarangire River.
Safari activity | Tarangire afternoon game drive
First game drive among baobab-dotted savannah — Tarangire's elephant herds are legendary, with lion and leopard in the riverine woodland.
Dry season (June–October) concentrates wildlife along the river channels. Overnight near the park or in Karatu.
Tarangire area lodge
Tarangire morning & Lake Manyara
Pre-dawn game drive in Tarangire — predators active at first light. After breakfast, transfer to Lake Manyara National Park (approx. 2 hours) for an afternoon drive through groundwater forest and along the Rift Valley escarpment.
Safari activity | Lake Manyara game drive
Afternoon drive through groundwater forest and escarpment — tree-climbing lions, hippo pools, flamingos on the soda lake, and 400+ bird species.
Tree-climbing lions, hippo pools, flamingos on the soda lake, and dramatic escarpment views. Overnight at a Manyara or Karatu lodge.
Manyara/Karatu lodge
Manyara to Serengeti — enter the plains
Morning transfer through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands (approx. 4–5 hours) — volcanic peaks, Maasai pastoralists, and optional Olduvai Gorge stop. Enter Serengeti National Park at Naabi Hill gate.
Safari activity | Serengeti afternoon game drive
First plains game drive on the Serengeti — lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, and the endless grassland that defines Tanzania's flagship park.
Afternoon game drive on the plains. Check in at your Serengeti camp for two nights of proper plains immersion.
Serengeti camp (2 nights)
Full day Serengeti — migration or predators
Dawn-to-dusk game drives across the Serengeti plains — lion prides, cheetah on termite mounds, spotted hyena, and vast herds of zebra and wildebeest. Sector matched to migration season: Ndutu (Jan–Mar), Western Corridor (May–Jul), Northern Serengeti (Jul–Oct).
Safari activity | Full-day Serengeti game drives
Dawn-to-dusk plains drives — migration herds or resident predator territories, with picnic lunch on the savannah.
Picnic lunch on the plains. Optional balloon safari at dawn (supplement) — pre-dawn aerial views over migration herds or predator territories, followed by champagne bush breakfast on landing.
Safari activity | Optional Serengeti balloon safari
Hot-air balloon flight at dawn over the Serengeti plains — silent aerial wildlife viewing and champagne breakfast, one of Africa's signature safari experiences (USD 550+, supplement).
Return to camp for dinner under the stars. Two Serengeti nights give proper time for migration positioning or repeated predator encounters — the benchmark advantage over the compressed four-day circuit.
Your guide tracks lion prides at kopjes, cheetah on termite mounds, and spotted hyena at den sites. Resident wildlife rewards year-round visitors even outside migration season.
Serengeti camp
Serengeti morning & Ngorongoro highlands
Final pre-dawn game drive on the Serengeti plains. After breakfast, exit through Naabi Hill and ascend into the Ngorongoro highlands (approx. 2–3 hours).
Overnight on the Ngorongoro Crater rim or in Karatu — views into the caldera at sunset. Tomorrow is crater day.
Safari activity | Serengeti dawn game drive
Final early-morning plains drive at peak predator activity before ascending to the Ngorongoro highlands.
Crater rim or Karatu lodge
Ngorongoro Crater descent & return to Arusha
Very early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater — UNESCO World Heritage caldera with roughly 25,000 large mammals in 260 km². Black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, flamingo at Lake Magadi, and hippo pools at Ngoitoktok Springs.
Safari activity | Ngorongoro Crater floor game drive
Full-morning crater-floor drive — among Africa's highest Big Five densities, with black rhino, flamingo, and hippo pools on the caldera floor.
Picnic lunch on the crater floor, then ascend and drive back to Arusha or JRO (approx. 3–4 hours). The classic six-day Northern Circuit complete — all four pillars (Tarangire, Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro) at a pace that avoids the rush of shorter itineraries.
Airport drop-off for evening flights or overnight in Arusha on request. Roughly 1,000 km of game-driving across baobab savannah, Rift Valley escarpment, endless plains, and crater-floor grassland.
