Ziwa rhino tracking — Murchison Falls approach

Drive north to Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch (approx. 3 hours). On foot with armed rangers, track southern white rhinos — Uganda's only place to see rhinos in the wild.

Murchison Falls — game drive & Nile boat cruise

Visit the top of the falls, check in at Paraa. Game drive on the Buligi circuit — elephant, buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe and Uganda kob.

Afternoon launch on the Victoria Nile toward the base of the falls — hippos, crocodiles, elephant at the water's edge.
Afternoon Nile launch cruise toward the falls base. Murchison's elephant herds cross the Nile at Paraa ferry — morning game drives on the northern bank require the 07:00 ferry. Hippo pods of 50+ individuals are standard on the launch cruise. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Murchison to Kibale — chimpanzee trekking

Drive southwest (approx. 7–8 hours) to Kibale National Park. Chimp trek Day 3 afternoon or Day 4 morning depending on routing.

Queen Elizabeth — Kazinga & Kasenyi

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approx. 2–3 hours). Game drive on the Kasenyi Plains and Kazinga Channel boat safari.

Two-hour cruise on the channel — dense hippo pods, elephant and buffalo on the banks, outstanding birding.
Lion, leopard and elephant on the plains; hippo pods on the channel. Queen Elizabeth's 600+ bird species include African skimmer on the Kazinga Channel and papyrus gonolek in the fringing swamps. Mammal focus remains elephant, lion and hippo on this wildlife-heavy day. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Queen Elizabeth — Ishasha — transfer to Bwindi

Drive south through Ishasha (tree-climbing lion stop) to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (approx. 6–8 hours total). Arrive at your gorilla lodge by evening. Tomorrow is gorilla day — porters can be arranged tonight. The Ishasha–Buhoma road via Kihihi is murram but passable year-round in a 4×4. Crested crane — Uganda's national bird — feeds in roadside maize fields above 1,800 m. Ishasha fig-tree lions are most visible 10:00–16:00 when heat drives them into shade branches. Continue to Bwindi via Kihihi — murram road, 4×4 essential. Drive time: Approx. 6–8 hours Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Full mountain gorilla trek day — 2–8 hours round trip, one hour on contact. UWA rangers lead you through montane forest to your assigned habituated family.

Track a habituated gorilla family through Bwindi's montane forest — one hour with the group on contact, then your gorilla trekking certificate on return.
Afternoon rest at the lodge. Porters recommended on steep, muddy trails. Gorilla permit is the single most expensive line item (approx. USD 800 foreign non-resident). One hour on contact is strictly enforced — trackers locate the family before your group arrives at the nest site. Trek duration: 2–8 hours round trip Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch & dinner Accommodation: Same Bwindi lodge

Bwindi — return to Entebbe

After breakfast, return drive to Entebbe (approx. 8–9 hours) via Mbarara and the Equator. Alternatively, fly Kisoro–Entebbe (approx. 1 hour) if booked. Airport drop-off for evening flights, or overnight in Entebbe after a long transfer day. Bwindi to Entebbe (8–9 hours) or Kisoro–Entebbe flight (1 hour) — domestic flights book out in peak gorilla season (June–September). Confirm flight option at booking. Kampala–Entebbe road traffic peaks 16:00–18:00 — plan airport arrival 3 hours before international departure. Kigali exit via Katuna border is 3–4 hours from Bwindi. Drive time: Approx. 8–9 hours by road; 1 hour by air Meals: Breakfast & lunch
