Home FAQ Gorilla trekking

Is Rwanda easier than Uganda for gorilla trekking?

Direct answer

Often yes for hiking difficulty—Volcanoes trails on bamboo slopes frequently complete in 1–4 hours with less extreme elevation change than Bwindi's 2–6 hour climbs across four sectors. Rwanda is not universally easier (Susa and Karisimbi groups can be strenuous), but Kigali's proximity and paved roads reduce travel fatigue compared with Uganda's 8–10 hour Entebbe–Bwindi drives.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
