Can I use cards on African safari?

Direct answer

Cards work at upscale Kampala hotels, Entebbe Airport forex counters, and some luxury safari lodges, but rural Uganda and most park areas are cash-dependent. Visa is more widely accepted than Mastercard; expect 3.5–6% surcharges where cards are taken. ATMs in Entebbe and Kampala dispense Ugandan shillings only (UGX 500,000–1,000,000 daily limit); notify your bank before travel and carry USD as backup.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
