Can I see the Big Five in Uganda?

Direct answer

Almost — lions, leopards, elephants, and buffalo live in Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo Valley year-round. Rhinos were poached to extinction in the wild but survive at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (USD 50 tracking fee), 2 hours north of Kampala en route to Murchison. Plan 2–3 nights savanna plus a Ziwa stop for a full Big Five circuit.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
