What is Nyungwe National Park?

Nyungwe National Park is Rwanda's largest protected rainforest and one of Africa's oldest montane forests. Covering more than 1,000 square kilometers in southwestern Rwanda, the park protects an extraordinary ecosystem of rainforest, bamboo forest, swamps, and mountain habitats. Nyungwe is internationally recognized for its chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk, birdwatching, hiking trails, and exceptional biodiversity. It is one of the most important conservation areas in East and Central Africa.
