Home FAQ Safety & security

Are safari lodges safe?

Direct answer

Reputable safari lodges in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are generally very safe, with fenced or elevated designs, 24-hour staff, and ranger escorts after dark. Wildlife does visit unfenced camps—never walk alone at night in the Maasai Mara or Queen Elizabeth; ask for an armed escort to your tent. Book through licensed UTB-registered operators, avoid displaying valuables, and use lodge safes for passports and cash.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
