Home FAQ Gorilla trekking

Is gorilla trekking safe?

Direct answer

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is well-regulated and widely considered safe—UWA rangers carry firearms, groups trek in parties of up to eight, and decades of habituation mean aggressive incidents are extremely rare when rules are followed. The main risks are slippery trails and altitude (1,160–2,607 m at Bwindi), not the gorillas themselves.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
