Is yellow fever required for African safari?

Direct answer

It depends on your route. Uganda requires a valid yellow fever certificate for all international arrivals aged 9 months and older, regardless of origin. Kenya and Tanzania require proof only if arriving from or transiting 12+ hours through a yellow-fever-endemic country—which includes Uganda and Kenya, so multi-country East Africa itineraries effectively require vaccination for everyone. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival; the WHO considers one dose valid for life.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
