Home FAQ Safety & security

Is walking around safari camps safe?

Direct answer

Inside fenced or electrified safari camps and lodges, walking between your tent and the main area is generally safe—most bush camps use low-voltage perimeter wires to deter elephants and buffalo at night. Never walk outside camp boundaries unaccompanied; ask staff for an armed escort after dark, and treat unfenced camps in wildlife corridors (common in Botswana and Zambia) as strictly guided-access only.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
