Gorilla trekking etiquette?

Direct answer

Follow ranger instructions at all times: keep 7–10 metres from gorillas, stay in your group of eight maximum, limit visits to one hour, and never eat, drink, or smoke near the animals. Turn away and cover coughs or sneezes — gorillas can catch human respiratory infections. Speak quietly, avoid direct eye contact with silverbacks, and do not use flash photography. If a gorilla approaches, crouch down and step back slowly without running.

Overview

Uganda combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic savannah game viewing, chimpanzee tracking, birding, and cultural experiences in a compact circuit. The right answer depends on your dates, fitness, budget, and whether you travel with a licensed operator who handles permits, road logistics, and park regulations.
